The WASPS were at the airport August 2nd, 2009. The club put a static display up in the hanger, and several of us braved the weather for a few demo flights. Ben Kirk flew his P-47 Thunderbolt several times in between the rain showers. Mr Kirk is now one of the two most scale pilots we have. His attention to detail lead him to once again land his P-47 in the grass with the wheels up since the left LG wouldn't go back down. We know you meant to do that Ben and we applaud your scale demonstration of a forced landing after flying a successful sortie. Ross Lentz flew his 4-Star once, John Tucker flew his Telemaster briefly until the engine quit and he had to land off in the distance. Vo Decker flew his Ultimate and his Raptor 30 helicopter several times as well. Ken Dickerson also flew his Butterfly. We also had a guest pilot, Jim Gavin, from central NY region (Tri Rivers RC club member I believe) that also flew a GP Patty Wagstaff Extra 300 and what I think was a Harrier 3d plane. Unfortunately, the technical gremlins got the better of Bill Willson's Piper Cub, and was unable to fly. If I forgot anyone, please let me know!
All in all, the event went over well, dispite mother nature's attempt to interfere. The Wellsville Area Small Plane Society would like to extend our thanks to the event organizers for letting us be a part of the festivities.
